Friday 1/31

You've made it through a couple of pretty challenging weeks of graphing and linear equation manipulation. Many of you have worked incredibly hard to meet the challenge, and I'm very thankful for your work ethic and perseverance.

Enjoy the Super Bowl this weekend! Our Winter Olympics project begins on Monday.

Here is this weekend's extra credit:

Thursday 1/30

We spent much of today reviewing and practicing for tomorrow's test.

Homework #80: Finish the Test 21 Preview worksheet
Solutions: Preview answer key

If you're stuck on any of the homework or need help studying, you could always ask The Community.

You'll be able to use the following assignments for tomorrow's notes and homework quiz; please make sure to have them with you and fully ready to go:

Week 21
Openers / Warm-Ups
Notes #45
Notes #46
Notes #47
Assignment #77 (TB pg 249)
Assignment #78 (TB pg 262)
Assignment #79 (Parallel and Perpendicular WS)

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Wednesday 1/29

We continued our work with parallel and perpendicular lines today, in both slope-intercept and standard form, with Notes #47.

By now, you should be able to proficiently convert from one form to the other, find the equation of a line if you know the slope and a point or two points, and find parallel and perpendicular lines that go through a specific point. If you can handle all of those things combined together, you're in great shape!

Homework #79: Finish the Finding Parallel and Perpendicular Lines worksheet
Solutions: Parallel and Perpendicular Lines answer key

Tuesday, January 28, 2014

Tuesday 1/28

Today we learned about parallel and perpendicular lines on Notes #46.

More specifically, we learned how determine whether lines are parallel, write equations of parallel lines, determine whether lines are perpendicular, and write equations of perpendicular lines.

Homework #78: TB pg 262 (#1-37 odd)
Be sure to check your answers in the back of the book when finished.

Monday, January 27, 2014

Monday 1/27

Today we learned how to write and graph equations in standard form with Notes #45.

If you need help converting from slope-intercept to standard form, this website may help. If the slope-intercept form has rational numbers (fractions), you're going to want to multiply by the least common denominator first to turn everything into integers.

Homework #77: TB pg 249 (#1-17 odd, #27-37 odd)

Be sure to check your answers in the back of the book when finished.

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Thursday 1/23

We spent today reviewing and practicing for tomorrow's test. If you can handle all of the questions on the Preview worksheet, you know you're prepared for tomorrow. Set yourself up for success.

Homework #76: Finish the Test 20 Preview worksheet
Solutions: Preview answer key

If you're stuck on any of the homework or need help studying, you could always ask The Community.

Note: There was a typo on the answer key for #21 from homework #75. An updated key is now available on yesterday's post. Be sure to double-check your answers.

You'll be able to use the following assignments for tomorrow's notes and homework quiz; please make sure to have them with you and fully ready to go:

Week 20
Openers / Warm-Ups
Notes #43
Notes #44
Assignment #74 (TB pg 242)
Assignment #75 (TB pg 255)
Assignment #76 (Test 20 Preview)

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Wednesday 1/22

We learned how to write the equation of a line today based on just the slope and a point, or two points with Notes #44. We did not get to example 5 today in class, but will go over it tomorrow. Make sure the rest of your notes are complete.

This is a tricky lesson, and will require extra studying of the notes on your part - and some serious practice! Please put in the necessary time and effort to gain mastery.

Homework 75: TB pg 255 (#19-27 odd, #39-47 odd)
Solutions: Slope-intercept answer key

Tuesday, January 21, 2014

Tuesday 1/21

Today we learned how to use slope-intercept form to identify the slope and y-intercept of an equation, and to quickly graph a line with Notes #43.

Homework #74: TB pg 242 (#1-23 odd, #35-39 odd)

Be sure to check your answers in the back of the book when finished.

Friday, January 17, 2014

Friday 1/17

Enjoy your three day weekend. Serious graphing starts next week.

Here is this weekend's extra credit:

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Thursday 1/16

We spent much of today reviewing and practicing for tomorrow's test.

Homework #73: Finish the Test 19 Preview worksheet
Solutions: Preview answer key

If you're stuck on any of the homework or need help studying, you could always ask The Community.

REMEMBER: You're starting with a clean slate for this semester. Be sure to put in the time and energy tonight to ensure success on tomorrow's quiz and test. Tomorrow's work is the first thing that goes in the grade book this semester.

You'll be able to use the following assignments for tomorrow's notes and homework quiz; please make sure to have them with you and fully ready to go:

Week 19
Openers / Warm-Ups
Notes #40
Notes #41
Notes #42
Assignment #70 (Graphiti Fish WS)
Assignment #71 (TB pg 235)
Assignment #72 (TB pgs 249 & 574)
Assignment #73 (Test 19 Preview)

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Wednesday 1/15

We tackled graphing horizontal and vertical lines today with Notes #42.

Remember that x = 3 tells you that the line will intersect with the x-axis at positive 3, just as y = -4 will intersect with the y-axis at negative 4. That's the whole key to determining both how to identify what kind of line it will be, and in graphing them correctly.

Homework #72: TB pg 249 (#19-26 all; identify and graph each) & TB pg 574 (#1-11 odd)

Be sure to check your answers in the back of the book when finished!

Tuesday, January 14, 2014

Tuesday 1/14

Today we learned how to find the slope of a line with Notes #41. We learned three different methods, all of which you should be proficient with by now.

Finding the slope of a line is an essential skill that you'll need for the remainder of the semester. Practice until you get it down perfectly.

Homework #71: TB pg 235 (#7-29 odd, #37, #39)
Be sure to check your answers in the back of the book when finished!

Monday 1/13

Welcome back! I hope that you enjoyed your vacation and have returned ready to work! I was out today, but I trust the lesson went well. If anything did not make sense, please bring me your questions tomorrow.

Today, on Notes #40, we learned how to plot points in the coordinate plane.  It is important that you have the fundamentals of graphing down because you will be expected to know and do it throughout your math career.

Homework #70: Fish Graphiti
Solutions: Fish Graphiti key
